About Lia

Lia began meditating in1977 with training in

Transcendental Meditation (TM). In 1985,

she began her daily practice of the                                                                      Mahayana tradition of Nichiren Shoshu                                                                        Buddhism, which she continues to practice to                                                              this day, along with regular zazen meditations.

She is also a devoted follower of His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama and considers herself an on-going student of Tibetan Buddhism, while taking an active role in helping to bring awareness to the Tibetan struggle for freedom. Her sponsorship of a Tibetan immigrant for residency in the U.S., while living in Seattle WA in 1992, has given her a personal interest in keeping the Tibetan culture alive. She has participated in many initiation ceremonies (Seattle, Phoenix, Minneapolis, Madison) and attended the Dalai Lama's intensive teaching on Shantideva's Guide to a Bodhisattva's Way of Life and Kamalashila's Middling Stages of Meditation (Madison, Wisconsin, 2008).

Lia has included meditation practices as part of her counseling therapy for over 30 years. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree from The Jane Addams School of Social Work, University of Illinois (1977), and a Masters in Social Work from Arizona State University (2003).

Lia is the author of WANDERING: lessons from the heron and the haul road. The book chronicles her silent meditation experience in 2014, as she journeys through a landscape that teaches with every step.  She invites the reader to explore with her the ultimate spiritual questions we all have concerning our interdependent place in the World, and she challenges our ideas of responsibility in order to "always choose compassion."

WANDERING is currently available here on Amazon Kindle eBooks and in paperback.

Lia currently lives and teaches in the Northwoods of Wisconsin
